College Packaging Tips & Moving Hacks For The Out-of-State Trainee

If you are an incoming freshman that is nervous about starting this brand-new chapter in your life, you have come to the best place. If you are anything like me you began considering packing weeks (if not months) earlier, but you still don't feel ready. Take a second to examine my packing list to assist in saving you a long time and energy before carrying on to these college packing ideas. In fact loading for college is a lot more difficult than deciding what to take.

I have actually moved 3 times in the last 2 years. Two of those journeys were cross-country moves. Needless to state, I have actually become a packaging and moving pro. Today I am going to share a few suggestions and techniques that I have picked up along the way to make moving for college as pain-free as possible. These college packing suggestions are perfect for the college student that is moving cross country, but they will assist everybody!
College Packing Tips
Packing for college is not a simple feat. In fact, I was sooo stressed and packed and repacked multiple times. On top of that, I overpacked and didn't even use half of what I brought. Hopefully these college packing tips conserve you from having an experience like I did.

Make A List
This may appear apparent, however making a list is a great location to start. Lucky for you, I have actually done the hard work for you. Head over to my college packaging list and get the printable variation to reference. As soon as you know exactly what you require to get and what you already have, the process will be a lot easier! I also discovered it simpler to make a list of particular clothes I was going to take to prevent overpacking (tbh I still overpacked so gain from my mistakes).

Cram In Duffle Bags & Suitcases
I guess this one really depends on how far out-of-state you are going. I moved from California to Tennessee. Because this is about a 2,000 mile trip, we flew. Packaging in duffle bags is an excellent option due to the fact that they condense way simpler and use up much less area. Nevertheless, you can load more in travel suitcases and not need to stress over how heavy the bags get. It's totally a personal choice what path you choose to go. Even if you aren't flying to school, I recommend you cram in at least one duffle bag or suitcase so you have it for any journeys you take during the school year (going home or spring break).

Arrange Your Bags/Boxes By Category
Attempt to keep your bags as organized as possible. This will assist you on Move-In Day when you begin unpacking. Start by laying whatever out in your space. Make piles of clothes, bedding, decoration, ect. When you have your piles arranged you can start fitting whatever into your bags or boxes. In all sincerity, this will be the most difficult task. You will likely have WAYYYY more clothes than bed linen or decoration. An idea is to fit your clothes around the other things you have loaded. If you are taking picture frames, cover a sweatshirt around it to keep it from breaking (do this with anything breakable).

Something I wish I would have done is write a list of whatever that remained in each bag and slide it on top once it was entirely packed. Since I loaded and repacked multiple times to get whatever to fit, I misplaced what bag contained what, which made unloading a MAJOR headache.

Usage Vacuum Sealed Bags
YALL !!!! This was a life saver for me. Because I was moving so far, I understood I wouldn't be going home in time for the weather modifications. I needed to bring my Summer/Fall clothes as well as some Winter clothing. Given that jackets and sweaters take up a great deal of area, get a few of these ziplock vacuum bags to pack at the bottom of your luggage. I also used these for pillows that I was taking with me.

If You Don't Use It, Do Not Take It
Sometimes we get these ideas in our head that we are going to reinvent ourselves in college. It is a brand-new chapter of our lives after all right? Well let me tell ya, old practices die hard. If you use lounge clothing majority of the time, you probably still will. You might dress great for the first couple of weeks of classes but that will end rapidly and you will resort back to your old ways. All of us do Try to restrict yourself on the items you "may" use when you get to college.

College Moving Hacks
When you have actually completed packaging, you are all set to make the relocation. The move has probably been prepared for a while at this point and odds are you have everything set in stone.

If You Are Flying
I extremely recommend flying with Southwest Airlines. This isn't sponsored by them I just genuinely think they are the best airline out there and provide some of the best service. Southwest enables each person to check in TWO bags free of charge! They are also always having sales to significant cities also.

Buy Things Online
This is the very best of my college packing ideas and a moving hack. Buying all of the larger products you require for school is fantastic for lots of factors. Firstly, it saves you from needing to load them. You never understand how much area your bedding takes up until you are down an entire suitcase. It also conserves you A BUNCH of time! After having actually taken a trip to school and handling the madness that is move in day, you're not going to wish to stroll around hectic stores checking out selected over products. If you order all of the important things you require you can quickly go to the shop and choose them up. It's guaranteed to be there! PLUS Target is taking 15% off all orders for college items that are produced choice up in your college town! You might even take it a step further and contact your school's mail room and see if you can have things delivered there. This is perfect for much smaller sized schools, but it deserves a try! I did this with ALL of my bed linen and some extra things and it was there waiting for me on move in day which made moving SOOOOO a lot easier!

Things to buy online: bedding, toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, ect.), trash cans, complete body mirror, school supplies, and any other big scale items.

Take An Overnight Bag
After a long day of moving the last thing you will wish to do is search the mess for the necessities. If you are flying, this can be your carry-on. Take a knapsack with a couple of attires, pjs, shower shoes, any medication you take, and anything else you would handle an over night journey. If you are remaining at a hotel the day before you could keep the travel toiletries simply in case you require them.

I would like to hear a few of your best college packing ideas and moving hacks! If you are an out of state student, what saved your life? If you moved a shorter range, what did you do differently? Let me understand in the remarks below!
